Wiring Diagram For Latching Relay

A latching relay is a type of relay that maintains its output state after the input signal is removed. This is in contrast to a non-latching relay, which returns to its original state when the input signal is removed. Latching relays are often used in applications where it is necessary to maintain a certain state even after the triggering event has occurred. For example, a latching relay could be used to turn on a light when a door is opened, and keep the light on even after the door is closed.

Latching relays are typically constructed with two coils: a holding coil and a triggering coil. The holding coil is used to maintain the relay's output state, while the triggering coil is used to change the relay's state. When the triggering coil is energized, it causes a magnetic field to be created around the coil. This magnetic field interacts with the armature of the relay, causing it to move and change the position of the contacts. When the triggering coil is de-energized, the magnetic field is removed and the armature returns to its original position, causing the contacts to return to their original state.

The number of contacts on a latching relay can vary, but most latching relays have either two or three contacts. Two-contact latching relays have one normally open (NO) contact and one normally closed (NC) contact. When the relay is energized, the NO contact closes and the NC contact opens. Three-contact latching relays have two NO contacts and one NC contact. When the relay is energized, the two NO contacts close and the NC contact opens.

Latching relays are available in a variety of sizes and shapes. They can be mounted on a panel or in a chassis. Latching relays can also be purchased with a variety of features, such as LED indicators, built-in timers, and optocouplers.

Latching relays are used in a wide variety of applications, including industrial automation, automotive, and telecommunications. They are also used in consumer products such as washing machines, microwave ovens, and thermostats.

In this diagram, the coil of the relay is connected to the power supply (VCC). The normally open (NO) contact of the relay is connected to the load (L). The normally closed (NC) contact of the relay is connected to the ground (GND). When the switch (S) is closed, the current flows through the coil of the relay, causing the armature to move and close the NO contact. This connects the load to the power supply, turning it on. When the switch is opened, the current stops flowing through the coil of the relay, causing the armature to return to its original position and open the NO contact. This disconnects the load from the power supply, turning it off.
