A frequency-shift keying (FSK) transmitter is a type of transmitter that encodes information by changing the frequency of its carrier wave. This is in contrast to amplitude modulation (AM) and phase modulation (PM), which encode information by changing the amplitude or phase of the carrier wave, respectively.

FSK transmitters are often used in wireless communication systems, such as radio and television broadcasting, and wireless networking. They are also used in some types of radar systems.

The basic principle of an FSK transmitter is to generate a carrier wave of a fixed frequency, and then to modulate the frequency of the carrier wave in accordance with the information to be transmitted. This can be done using a variety of methods, such as a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO), a digital-to-analog converter (DAC), or a phase-locked loop (PLL).

The frequency of the carrier wave is typically modulated between two different frequencies, called the mark frequency and the space frequency. The mark frequency is used to represent a binary 1, and the space frequency is used to represent a binary 0.

The input to the FSK transmitter is a binary data stream. The data stream is converted into a series of pulses by the data clock. The pulses are then used to modulate the frequency of the carrier wave by the modulator. The modulated carrier wave is then amplified and transmitted.

FSK transmitters are relatively simple to design and implement, and they are very efficient in terms of power consumption. However, they are also relatively susceptible to noise and interference. As a result, FSK transmitters are typically only used in applications where the signal-to-noise ratio is relatively high.
