1 Wire And 2 Knock Sensor Wiring Diagram

By | June 18, 2023

A knock sensor is a device that detects engine knocking and sends a signal to the engine control unit (ECU). The ECU then uses this information to adjust the ignition timing and fuel delivery to prevent engine damage.

There are two types of knock sensors: one-wire and two-wire. One-wire knock sensors are the most common type and are used on most gasoline engines. Two-wire knock sensors are used on some diesel engines.

One-wire knock sensors work by using a piezoelectric crystal to convert the mechanical energy of the knock into an electrical signal. The electrical signal is then sent to the ECU.

Two-wire knock sensors work by using a magnetic field to generate an electrical signal. The magnetic field is created by a coil of wire that is wrapped around the knock sensor. When the knock sensor is hit by the piston, the magnetic field is disrupted, which generates an electrical signal.

The wiring diagram for a one-wire knock sensor is very simple. The knock sensor is connected to the ECU with a single wire. The wiring diagram for a two-wire knock sensor is slightly more complex. The knock sensor is connected to the ECU with two wires: a signal wire and a ground wire.

Here is a table that summarizes the differences between one-wire and two-wire knock sensors:

Feature One-wire Two-wire
Number of wires 1 2
Type of sensor Piezoelectric Magnetic
Most common type Yes No

If you are unsure of which type of knock sensor your vehicle has, you can consult your vehicle's owner's manual or a qualified mechanic.
